How to use it

Pick a date of birth. The second date starts as today. Change it to find someone's age on any other day, such as the day of an exam, a job application or a retirement date.

How it is counted

Age counts whole years first, then whole months, then the days left over:

  1. Take the difference in years.
  2. If the birthday has not come yet this year, take one away.
  3. Count whole months since the last birthday, then the days since the last "month-day".

Example: born 15 June 1995, on 25 September 2026 you are 31 years, 3 months, 10 days.

Common questions

How is a 29 February birthday handled?

In years that have no 29 February, the birthday comes after 28 February, so the new age starts on 1 March. Laws differ on this. For legal documents, follow the rule of the office you are dealing with.

Why does the total number of days not equal years × 365?

Leap years add a day every four years, and months have 28 to 31 days. The total counts the real calendar days between the two dates.
