How to use it
Type the tag price and the percent off. If the shop gives an extra discount on top (for example "extra 10% off sale items"), put it in the third box.
The formula
sale price = price × (1 − discount ÷ 100)
With an extra discount, the second one comes off the already-reduced price:
sale price = price × (1 − first ÷ 100) × (1 − extra ÷ 100)
Example: ₱2,499 with 30% off is 2,499 × 0.70 = ₱1,749.30. You save ₱749.70.
Common questions
Is 30% off plus an extra 10% off the same as 40% off?
No, it is 37% off. The extra 10% is taken from the sale price, not the original. On ₱1,000, 30% off leaves ₱700, and 10% off that leaves ₱630. That is ₱370 saved, or 37%.
How do I work out the percent off from two prices?
Use the percentage change calculator with the original price as the old number and the sale price as the new one.
Does the discount apply before or after VAT?
Prices shown to shoppers in the Philippines already include VAT, so the percent comes off the shelf price. The 20% senior citizen and PWD discount is different: it applies to the price without VAT. The shop removes the VAT first, then takes 20% off.
